Around 30,000 visitors took the opportunity to go behind the scenes and experience the fascinating world of aviation up close.
Under the motto “wonder and wnthusiasm”, the Airport Festival 2026 offered a diverse programme featuring impressive aircraft, spectacular demonstrations and numerous hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. It did not take long for the festival grounds to fill with thousands of aviation enthusiasts.
A particular crowd favourite was the large aircraft and helicopter exhibition on the apron. Numerous aviation companies and associations showcased their aircraft at close range and were available to answer visitors’ questions. The flight demonstrations also generated tremendous excitement. Highlights included a flypast by an Austrian Armed Forces C-130 Hercules, a formation flight by two Eurofighters, breathtaking performances by the Flying Bulls, as well as aerobatic and model aircraft displays. Spectators were equally impressed by the firefighting demonstration involving a police helicopter and by presentations from the airport’s operational fire brigade featuring its Panther rescue and firefighting vehicle.
At the same time, the Tyrol Aviation Sports Centre and the Innsbruck Gliding Association, located along Kranebitter Allee, provided fascinating insights into the world of gliding and powered flight.
Throughout the festival grounds, various emergency services, associations, and organisations were also represented. From the Austrian Armed Forces, the police, and the Red Cross to local sports clubs and many others, visitors gained valuable insights into their wide-ranging fields of activity. Interactive stations and hands-on experiences for both children and adults proved especially popular.
The musical entertainment programme was provided by the ORF Radio Tirol Stage, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
Marco Pernetta, Managing Director of Innsbruck Airport, was delighted with the success of the Open Day: “It is always something special to see people of all generations share their enthusiasm for the airport. Many visitors have the opportunity to discover areas that are normally inaccessible and experience the airport from a completely new perspective. The tremendous enthusiasm for aviation, the many positive responses and the outstanding cooperation with our partners, associations and emergency services made this day a truly memorable experience. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved.”
