Press Release – 27 June 2024

Between 29 November 2024 and 28 March 2025, a new direct flight operated by Star Alliance member LOT Polish Airlines will connect Innsbruck with the Polish capital Warsaw for the first time. The service will operate every Fridayduring the 2024/25 winter season using a B737-800 aircraft. Polish guests planning their winter holidays in Tyrol will thus, for the first time, be able to fly non-stop to Innsbruck.

Poland is an important source market for Tyrolean tourism and ranks among the top ten. Across the entire tourism year 2023, Poland accounted for around 700,000 overnight stays in Tyrol. For this reason, Innsbruck Airport has been working for some time together with Tirol Tourism to establish a direct flight connection for Polish guests. With LOT Polish Airlines, a Star Alliance member, a suitable airline partner was found, and the enthusiasm about this new winter destination is accordingly high.

Tourism and Economic Affairs Councillor Mario Gerber commented on the new flight connection as follows: “I am extremely pleased about the new direct flight connection between Warsaw and Innsbruck for the 2024/25 winter season. This initiative represents an important step in strengthening tourism and economic relations between Tyrol and Poland. This new connection is not only a benefit for tourism, but also for the entire regional economy. Innsbruck Airport, as Austria’s third-largest commercial airport, plays a key role for our region and makes a significant contribution to strengthening the economy and the labour market. I am convinced that this new direct flight connection will further intensify the exchange between our regions and deepen the friendship between Tyrol and Poland. I wish all guests udanego lotu – a pleasant flight – and an unforgettable stay in Tyrol!”

Mayor Johannes Anzengruber welcomes the new connection to Central and Eastern Europe on behalf of the City of Innsbruck: “The Polish market has developed very positively over recent years and is therefore of great importance for city tourism. The new direct scheduled service thus strengthens our business location and represents a valuable addition to the flight offering at Innsbruck Airport.”

Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism, also expressed a positive view:
“We are very pleased that our joint efforts with Innsbruck Airport and Tirol Werbung have borne fruit. The new direct connection to Innsbruck – operated by Poland’s national airline, LOT Polish Airlines – underlines the high and growing importance of the Polish source market. We are addressing quality-conscious leisure skiers who combine their holiday with urban experiences. The direct scheduled flight significantly reduces travel time. We even hope for a further expansion to several weekly flights.”

“After Tashkent, Athens, Oradea and Riyadh, Innsbruck is the latest route that LOT Polish Airlines is adding from Warsaw this year,” says Michał Fijoł, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines. “Thanks to the aircraft orders we have placed in recent months, we are able to offer our passengers both new destinations and increased frequencies on existing routes. With flights to the ‘heart of Austrian winter sports’, we are also responding to the wishes of many travellers. Innsbruck not only offers excellent skiing conditions, but also a wide range of cultural and tourist attractions. We are confident that this new connection will meet with strong interest.”

At the same time, the new flight connection offers Tyrolean residents the opportunity to visit the Polish capital Warsaw or to connect via Warsaw to the global route network of LOT Polish Airlines.
