The first flight from Riga was the highlight of today’s fourth Sunday of Advent. At 12:20 p.m., a modern Airbus A220-300 operated by airBaltic landed at Innsbruck Airport with a slight delay, carrying 121 passengers. The Latvian airline will operate the new route every Sunday from 22 December 2024 until 23 March 2025, bringing numerous guests from the Baltic region to Tyrol. Passengers on the inaugural flight received a very special welcome.
With airBaltic, Innsbruck Airport today welcomed another new airline partner for the first time. From its home base in Riga, the Latvian airline offers flights to more than 80 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Caucasus region. The new connection to and from Innsbruck represents an attractive opportunity both for Latvian guests travelling to Tyrol and for Tyrolean residents wishing to explore Riga. airBaltic operates an all-Airbus A220-300 fleet, with each aircraft offering 148 seats. With a total of 49 aircraft, the fleet is among the youngest in Europe and is appearing in Innsbruck for the first time. The inaugural flight was welcomed by a reception committee, and both the airBaltic crew and passengers were delighted by the warm reception.
Deputy Airport Director Patrick Dierich also personally welcomed the inaugural flight: "We are delighted to welcome airBaltic as a new airline partner at Innsbruck Airport and wish the route every success in its first winter season with us.”
Thomas Ramdahl, SVP Network Management at airBaltic, also expressed his enthusiasm for the new route: “We are pleased to expand airBaltic’s presence in Austria, to launch this new route and to connect Innsbruck with the vibrant city of Riga – the home of airBaltic. We are grateful to our partners at Innsbruck Airport for the cooperation and look forward to offering travellers the opportunity to experience this jewel of the Baltic region.”
