Innsbruck Airport has concluded a strong winter season. With a total of 532,975 passengers handled in scheduled and charter traffic, the first quarter of 2025 alone was the third strongest in the airport’s history. Compared with the same period last year, this represents an increase of 1.2%. This provides a solid foundation for continued development and economic success in the 2025 financial year.
Positive momentum for the 2024/25 winter season was generated by three newly introduced routes to and from Madridwith Iberia, Warsaw with LOT Polish Airlines and Austrian Airlines, and Riga with airBaltic. All three routes have already been confirmed for the 2025/26 winter season and are available for booking.
Seasonal and year-round focus
The winter season is of major importance for Innsbruck Airport and represents the most intensive period of airport operations. Once again, Airport Managing Director Marco Pernetta points out that the pronounced seasonality has a significant impact on the airport: “In winter, demand from the tourism sector is extremely high, which is very important for us from an economic perspective, but it also places considerable operational demands on us, especially at weekends.”
On a year-round basis, the greatest challenge currently remains the re-establishment of a hub connection to Lufthansa’s route network via Frankfurt.
“We had assumed that we would already be able to offer a solution during the summer with the South Tyrolean airline skyalps. Unfortunately, the implementation of this project has now been unexpectedly delayed,” Pernetta notes with regret.
The summer programme is about to take off
The 2025 summer season will begin at the end of April with popular destinations in the Mediterranean region. The flight programme includes Greece, Italy, Spain and France, and Turkey will once again be added as a new destination. Long-standing tour operator partners Idealtours, TUI Austria, Christophorus Reisen, Rhomberg Reisen and Stoll Reisen have developed the holiday offerings departing from Innsbruck.
In addition to a wide range of package holidays, so-called “flight-only” offers are also available. These are particularly attractive for travellers who wish to organise their holidays independently.
