In 2024, Innsbruck Airport continued to consistently pursue the sustainable transformation of its airport operations. With emissions- and noise-based landing charges, the airport promotes the use of more environmentally friendly aircraft and contributes to noise reduction. Particularly encouraging: extensions of operating hours were significantly reduced during the summer months. In addition, the voluntary noise protection window subsidy scheme has been extended to include the municipality of Völs since last year.
Further milestones were achieved as part of the “CO₂ Zero Emissions 2050” programme. Taxiway and runway lighting was converted to LED technology, a new photovoltaic system was commissioned, and since December 2024 the entire vehicle fleet has been running on HVO100 fuel. These measures strengthen energy efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions. Sustainable travel to and from the airport is also being promoted. In the past year, a city bike station was installed at the airport, which has been very well received.
In autumn 2024, a large-scale emergency exercise was carried out to train cooperation and communication with emergency services for potential incidents. Employee-focused measures were also expanded: the health programme was further developed, and new training formats were introduced covering sustainability and digitalisation.
