This year, Innsbruck Airport celebrates its 100th anniversary. In this special anniversary year, the airport invites visitors on Austria’s National Day, 26 October, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to marvel, discover and experience. Innsbruck Airport will host its popular Open Day, offering visitors the opportunity to see aircraft up close, experience the world of aviation firsthand and enjoy a diverse programme for all ages. Spectacular flight demonstrations, exciting exhibitions and interactive experience stations will once again be key highlights of the event. Long-standing cooperation partner ORF Radio Tirol will host the varied stage programme. Admission to the family event is free of charge.
Highlights on the apron and in the air
On the apron, an aircraft exhibition will feature aviation companies and associations including Aerobats, the Innsbruck Gliding Association, Flugsportzentrum Tirol, ÖAMTC, Heli Tirol and Wucher Helicopter.
The Austrian Armed Forces will present two transport helicopters – the Agusta Bell 212 and the AW169 “Lion” – as well as a large radar unit.
In the morning, visitors can look forward to a flyover by a Hercules C-130, followed in the afternoon by a flyover of two Eurofighter jets.
A visit by the legendary Flying Bulls from Salzburg is expected during the course of the Airport Festival.
In addition, the airport’s fire brigade will present its impressive Panther firefighting vehicle, and visitors will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the airport’s vehicle fleet.
Throughout the day, several glider aerobatic displays and model aircraft flight demonstrations will take place in the air.
Paid sightseeing flights will be available with Heli Tirol, Wucher Helicopter, Elikos (take-off and landing at the ÖAMTC base) and Idealtours.
Along Kranebitter Allee, the exhibition will focus entirely on aviation sports: Flugsportzentrum Tirol and the Innsbruck Gliding Association (ISV) will showcase the fascination of gliding and powered flight. Live gliding operations can be experienced throughout the day. Food and beverages, as well as a bouncy castle for younger visitors, will round off the programme at the glider airfield area.
A shuttle service will operate between Kranebitter Allee and the airport grounds at Fürstenweg.
