Innsbruck Airport looks back on an eventful anniversary year. In 2025, the airport celebrated its 100-year anniversary while also facing demanding conditions in the European aviation market. The year closed on a positive note with a 2.4% increase, reaching a total of 882,876 annual passengers.
The European airline landscape continued to shift in 2025. Factors such as persistent aircraft capacity shortages, the thinning of regional routes – particularly in German-speaking countries – as well as ongoing discussions surrounding the aviation tax and its impact on competitive ticket prices shaped the market environment.
These developments also had a direct impact on Innsbruck. A major issue was the renewed cancellation of the Frankfurt route. Together with the owners and partners of Tiroler Flughafenbetriebsgesellschaft mbH (TFG), intensive efforts are underway to re-establish a year-round, sustainable connection to a second major international hub alongside Vienna.
“Despite the loss of the Frankfurt route, we remain a successful regional airport,” emphasizes Airport Managing Director Marco Pernetta. He adds: “In addition to an attractive flight schedule, we offer short distances, stress-free travel, and excellent accessibility – advantages appreciated by Tyroleans as well as our guests.”
Passenger Development 2025: Moderate Growth Despite a Difficult Market Environment
In the past year, Innsbruck Airport handled 882,876 passengers – an increase of 2.4% compared to 2024.
Flight movements in scheduled and charter traffic declined slightly. With 7,516 movements, the figure was 0.8% below the previous year.
Average aircraft load factors rose again slightly, reaching 74.2%.
Winter Remains Peak Season, Summer Shows Positive Trends
Winter continues to be the peak season at Innsbruck Airport: In the first quarter of 2025, slightly more than 60% of the annual passengers were handled. This period lays the economic foundation for a successful overall year.
Nevertheless, the summer season 2025 also developed positively, as Tyroleans increasingly used the summer destinations offered from Innsbruck. Between May and October 2025, the airport recorded 188,263 passengers – an increase of 6.4% compared to the summer months of 2024.
Development of Destinations and Countries
The most popular destinations in the anniversary year 2025 were London, Vienna, and Amsterdam.
Among airlines, transavia, easyJet, and Austrian Airlines held the top positions.
Spain, Turkey (first year after resumption of the route), and Denmark showed particularly dynamic growth.
Current Winter 2025/26 and Outlook for Summer 2026
The current winter season has had a strong start: December 2025 saw a 3.6% increase in passengers compared to the previous year – over 107,000 passengers used Innsbruck Airport at the start of the winter season. The new destination Düsseldorf and several frequency increases from the UK – the airport’s most important source market – provided positive momentum.
In early January, extreme weather across Europe caused delays and scattered flight cancellations – nevertheless, the airport expects overall positive results for the winter season through Easter.
For the summer of 2026, vacation package sales have already begun, with tour operators promoting their offers with early-bird discounts. NEW from Innsbruck next summer: the popular Greek island of Corfu (with Idealtours).
